Supporting, Loving, Hoping: Opening reception on Friday, March 23 @ 5:30-7:30 pm;

The Office of Supervisor John Avalos,

1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place,

City Hall, Room 273, San Francisco, CA.

Supervisor John Avalos and the staff and cilents of SteppingStone Day Health invite you to a photography exhibit, "Supporting, Loving, Hoping." This exhibit celebrates the survival of adult day health programs serving frail elderly and disabled adults.

In 2011 the California State Legislature voted to eliminate Adult Day Health Programs statewide. Over 270 centers serving 35,000 frail seniors and disabled adults would have closed their doors. A majority of their clients would have had to move into nursing homes.

Ultimately a successful lawsuit in federal court kept the centers open. Adult Day Health care will have a new name --- "Community-Based Adult Services" --- but will retain many of its clients and all of its services.

Our clients are more than statistics on a budget office page. They are friendly, funny, crabby and unpredictable. They have pets, siblings, children, and spouses. Many live alone and our center is their only community. They have multiple health problems, not all of them visible. This exhibit brings you face to face with a group of people California almost discarded.

Karen Ande is an award-winning documentary photographer. She is also a physical therapist of SteppingStone's Mission Creek Center.

Rally to Save Adult Day Health Care

October 20, 2011

San Francisco led the way in developing a strong network of adult day health and supportive programs. Now we must lead the way to stop them from being dismantled.

Download a copy of the petition here and circulate by October 20th to Save Adult Day Health Care. Tell us that you "like" this campaign by going to our new page on Facebook by clicking here.

The good news is that San Francisco civic leaders and our aging services organizations are committed to help keep the doors open. We want the Governor to keep his promise to the more than 1300 people and their families served by this comprehensive, community based alternative that provides on-going physical therapy, occupational therapy, other health and supportive services. Come learn what you can do to help!

"ADHC doesn't give up on people, and we can't give up on ADHC."
