Chan Soon Fong suffers from dementia, memory loss, hypertension, osteoporosis, anemia, arthritis, ulcers, a compressed lumbar spine and diabetes. The 92-year-old woman's list of illnesses is staggering, but the San Franciscan has managed to stay in her own home and out of a nursing facility with the help of in-home caregivers and a state-sponsored program called Adult Day Health Care, which provides medical care, physical therapy, exercise, counseling, socialization and other support at one place. Chan has participated in the program for 14 years. That may soon change for Chan and others like her.

Will California Keep Adult Day Health?
Senior advocates are hoping a hearing at the end of last week was a turning point for the Adult Day Health Care Program. It is slated to be eliminated as part of Governor Brown's proposed budget -- but since one committee recommended keeping it while another committee urged its elimination, the fate of the ADHC program has come down to the joint conference committee.
