SteppingStone, also known as North & South of Market Adult Day Health, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that operates four Adult Day Health Care Centers serving residents of San Francisco. We are licensed by the California Department of Public Health and certified as a Medi-Cal provider by the California Department of Aging.
Founded in 1983 in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco we are now the largest provider of adult day health care in the city, providing over 50,000 service days each year and serving over 350 clients.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck San Francisco in early 2020, our ADHC Centers were closed and the agency began providing remote care. We did this without missing a single service day, so that our clients, all of whom are at high risk from COVID, would not be left without support. These state directed Temporary Alternative Services replicate standard adult day health care and have been successful in helping the vast majority of our program participants maintain their health.
In July 2021, changes in the pandemic and state guidelines allowed SteppingStone to resume in-Center care on a limited basis. Most program participants currently receive care both in-Center and using remove services.
SteppingStone is a key part of the senior care infrastructure of SF, working closely with many partner organizations and agencies.
We maintain an active advocacy presence and our Executive Director, Daniel Gallagher, currently serves as co-chair of the Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly (CASE) and as a board member of the California Association of Adult Day Services (CAADS).
